A little over a year ago, I was in Austin with some time on my hands. Under normal circumstances I have trouble staying in one place, but if I'm bored, I start roaming. And that's exacly what I did. Since everyone else was occupied with an initiation, I made my way from our friend's house downtown over to the University of Texas where the Blanton Museum of Art has its home. It was a nice escape and, as always, the art gave me a zen like demeanor when I rejoined my friends.
Not being an Austin native, I was unaware of the museum or what it had in it, but I usually don't care. If it says "MUSEUM", I'm ready to go. I was pleasantly surprised by the collections they have. There's a wide range of great works hanging on the walls and sitting in displays. But there is also some wonderful architectural work around the museum as well. Since I hadn't begun this Journey of Museums when I went there, I didn't get great photos or names of artists. I apologize for that. I alway like to give credit to those that do the work that impresses me. This time, however, that information is lost in the past since I don't plan on going back to Austin anytime soon. What I can tell you is it was well worth my venture out in the capital of Texas. If your life brings you to the Lone Star State and you make it to Austin, be sure to swing by UT and see the Blanton Museum of Art.
