A little northeast of downtown Oklahoma City, a little gem for art lovers can be seen from Automobile Alley on Broadway. The Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center, located on NW 11th Street, is not only an art gallery, but also a learning center for art and culture. OCAC has great activities for kids and adults to explore their creative curiosity. Some of their past and periodic events are Date Night Art Making, Second Saturday Art Making, special speakers, and private group guided tours. They also offer programs for schools and teachers to help their students find the artist within them. OCAC has something called an Art Garden. What do you need to grow to make your own textile and paper dyes? Find out here.

That seems like so many great things and I haven't even gotten to the art exhibits yet. The Center offers two (sometimes three) floors of art exhibits that you can peruse at your own pace. It's not an enormous complex where you have to stop and rest so you can take it all in fairly quickly. But if you do need to sit for a minute, they have a great little cafe to relax and enjoy a tasty beverage. As far as the art goes, I can tell the curators work extensively to bring exhibits that can be joyful, thought provoking, culturally significant, and historically important to modern art. I've toured OCAC quite a few times and I've seen so many different things like Native American textile and word art, Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns, and works by up and coming artists from all ethnicities, backgrounds, and media preferences. If you want an all inclusive, safe place to enjoy looking at art, making art, or talking about art, please go to Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center. You can go over and over and not see the same thing at every visit. Perfect!

The OCAC is free admission, but donations are greatly appreciated whether it's a few bucks or an endowment level contribution. Let's keep this place free for everyone!
