Music is my other life and I love seeing historical exhibits about music and musicians. The Buddy Holly Museum in Lubbock, Texas was no exception. I went to visit my brother and he suggested we all go down to see it. He had been there, and he knows that I'm a music nerd. I loved the place. There were quite a few pieces in the museum chronicling the life of a troubadour whose life ended far too soon.
The museum is housed in the old train depot and it has been refurbished quite nicely. There are three galleries, a house, a theater, and a great gift shop. (I always try to buy at least a post card.) In the main gallery, there was a timeline that covered pre-Buddy, Buddy's era, and post-Buddy. It was well thought out and interesting to learn about what happened when. There were guitars, records, childhood drawings, and other memorabilia to round out the collection. There was a strict "No Photos" rule for the main gallery so I obliged and only took photos of what I could. There's no point in being banned from a museum! You can see some of the pics I got from other places, like the statue of him across the street from the museum.
We went to a house that sat next to the old train station. It was one of Buddy's bandmate's houses. Since Buddy's family moved quite a bit, they couldn't preserve every house his family had lived it. Understandable. Another feature that is offered at the Center is live music. There is a great courtyard in front of the building with tables and chairs. I was told there were great concerts held there. I may need to go back for one.
If you ever find yourself in Lubbock for a spell, drop in to the Buddy Holly Museum. It will make you Rave On about it for a long time. Did you catch the Rave On...Oh, boy am I a music nerd. Sorry. HA! Not sorry.
