The Oklahoma City Zoo & Botanical Garden(24)

OKLAHOMA CITY

The Oklahoma City Zoo was the first zoo I ever went to. Not this past time though. When I was in 6th grade, we came here on a field trip. I had broken the bone in my right heel, but I didn't know it at the time. I just knew it hurt to walk. So I limped the whole time. My friends and I found an abandoned kid trolley and they pushed me around in it until a park narc took it away. It was still amazing to see so many animals in one place.

Flash forward 40 years and I'm back in Oklahoma City and going to the zoo again. I've been to 10 or 12 zoos over the years and I gotta tell you, the OKC zoo is top notch. Not only do they offer an incredible number of animals to look at, they also have events that are geared toward adults. Of course there are events for kids there, but as an adult, I kind of enjoy having a cocktail or beer while I'm walking around like they do at the Zoo Brew, Sip and Stroll, and Breakfast With The Animals events. The OKC Zoo also has a Haunted Zoo event in October that's good for the whole family. And that's just the tip of the giraffe horn. This Zoo has so much going on, it would be difficult to NOT find something cool going on. There are too many things to list here so I put the link to their website below. Walking around, seeing all the great things they offer, I felt like a kid again. Which might explain why I didn't take many pictures. I was too busy enjoying myself!

The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden has a mission to conserve wildlife and plant species to make sure nothing goes extinct and to ensure that the animals under their watch are well cared for. And, as they learn new things, they turn around and teach the public about it so we can do our part as well.

The grounds themselves are pretty extensive. I think it took us three hours to walk through all the exhibits, so plan accordingly. Suncreen, people! Sunscreen and hats are your best friends. While you're walking around, there are shady places to sit and take breaks, cooler indoor exhibits, and a few restaurants. For me, the amount I payed to eat there was a little shocking, but I was tired and hungry. Come to think of it, I'm usually tired and hungry. Anyway, prepare yourself to either carry snacks (saves money) or buy food (more convenient.)

I loved coming back to the Oklahoma City Zoo to see what amazing progress they've made over the years. It's truly a wonderful place to visit. Their website is jam packed with information about your trip to the Zoo. Check it out and have fun.
