OKLAHOMA CITY
While I don't live directly in the flight pattern of the Wiley Post Airport, I occasionally hear the small planes that frequent the air space above it. I've been out there a couple of times, but I didn't realize there was a museum out there until I started this Museum journey.
It was late morning when I pulled up to the metal building that houses the Oklahoma Museum of Flying. I stepped inside and it looked like it used to be a two room office with a big hangar in the back. The former office has been turned into a collection of flying memorabilia, toys, and airplane parts. I perused all the photos, shelves, and things hanging from the ceiling expecting someone to pop in to see who had come in. I figured it was probably a voluteer gig, like small museums can be so I didn't think anything of it. I was just glad to be there looking at this cool flight stuff.
Through the back of the office, I went through a glass door to see a few huge planes in various states of flight preparedness so I started snapping some pictures to share with you. I spotted two guys sitting at a table near the back. I waved and possibly one guy waved back while the other was talking. I made my way around all the planes getting pics of them all. It sounds weird, but I didn't want to interrupt their conversation so I just left. Some days I'm completely relieved to look around a place and get in a good Irish exit with no one the wiser.
I've alway been fascinated by flying and planes in general. This place just kept that feeling alive. Of course, I could'd help but sing "Off we go, into the wild blue yonder" as I stepped back into the real world. Good times!
