Exhibit C Art Gallery

I've mentioned the Exhibit C Art Gallery in two other articles because I don't want you to miss it if you're on the ever-growing First Americans campus. You can see my write ups of The First Americans Museum and the National Native Americans Hall of Fame, but for this post, I'm focusing on an outstanding collection of fine art located in Exhibit C.

The first time I went to Exhibit C, they were located in Bricktown and it was pretty cool when it was there. However, I stepped into their new location and it was obviously way way better. They went from about 4,000 square feet of space to 10,000. The lighting is better. The displays are better. It's just a fantastic experience. So what are you going to see in Exhibit C? Amazing fine art made by Native Americans from many different Tribes.

Run by the Chickasaws, the Gallery is similar to the FAM in that they feature works from different Tribes, not just theirs. In an art world that can be very exclusionary, they've made the important decision to do the opposite. That alone should be a reason to sing the praises of this place. But it doesn't stop at a diverse pool of artists. The art itself covers an incredibly wide range of media, style, and themes. The artwork is for sale and honestly if I had a spare $50,000, I would have spent every dime of it here and walked away with so many pieces of art it would make my wife's head spin. Like most good galleries, some of the work here is very affordable and some requires a bit of an investment. But as you can see from the photos below, there is work that's well worth every penny. One good thing is the staff is very friendly and they won't mind if you just browse and see what these great artists are making, but how awesome would it be to own a piece from here. Pretty great!

If you are out at the First Americans campus, you should stop in Exhibit C Art Gallery and look around. If you can, buy something. It helps support real artists doing real work. Real and good work. It also helps the gallery keep bringing us wonderful Native art from all over the country. Go!
